NZ's population (and the world's) is ageing spectacularly. Currently, 40,700 New Zealanders have dementia. This is expected to treble by 2050 when today's children are adults with their own families .  The Health Minister, Tony Ryall, describes it as a dementia epidemic, which NZ needs to be better prepared for.
